Do you ever...

dream about someone so realistically that you wake up and end up surprised to find yourself as you normally do, alone, with said person and circumstance nowhere to be seen? This has been happening alot these last few nights. I have been dreaming about someone that I have not talked to in a couple of months, and I'm not ready to suck it up and be the first to break the silence. No real legitimate reason other than fear of.... what, I'm not so sure. The old "they could always make contact if they wanted to" creeps in, and I stay quiet. Perhaps I'll do my best to stay awake all night tonight to avoid the morning's disappointment.

So it's monday....

and normally monday is a regularly scheduled day without too much room for spontanaity. Today however, Samea wasn't up for groceries, and I didn't need more than a couple of things so I went out by myself and then to grandmothers. Sally stopped in before I left and we had a chat and tea, which is always a treat. I got home sooner than I usually do, managed to have lunch at a reasonable time and then have been just puttering, purging stuff out of my house for Big Brothers and Sisters. It's amazing how much stuff one can accululate...

My dear friend was in a mood for a fight today, so I was happy to try and pick one with her. We read somewhere once that you are not really friends until you have had your first fight. We try but seem to fail at that part of our relationship. Actually everytime we try to fight we just end up in peals of laughter so I guess we are a hopeless case! I think I am happier this way...

After getting the mail, Sam was excited to pass me a little parcel from a garden friend. Inside were dayliliy seeds and a most appropriate book. I can't tell you how excited I am to plant the seeds and see what comes in two or three years! I knew the parcel was coming but not quite sure when, and today being a cold grey day the promise of new life is a welcome surprise. Thank you Karen for making my day!!!

Hud is out for floor hockey again tonight so I find myself alone. Seems to be alot of that lately. Meetings, weekends, etc. Good thing I have a new book to read!

Fall Fair Fun...and then some

This weekend the husbands were away, and so the moms decided to take the kids to the fall fair. We enjoyed watching the horses jumping etc while we ate fair food....then we went exploring all the rest there was to see. They had all sorts of animals to feed, sheep to watch being shorn, and cows to watch being milked. The kids loved it all and even Daniel who had not wanted to go as there were only girls his age, decided that even though they were a bit annoying they were good company. The torture I put him through is unbelievable.

My friend had gum surgery today in which they took skin from her upper pallet to graft onto her lower gums. I can't begin to imagine the discomfort. And although eating is the last thing she is going to want to do, she is a nursing mom so she needs to get something in. I am about to take her some homemade squash soup and hopefully that will do the trick. Warm, comforting and chock full of vitamins for Gabe.

Aside from the pics, I figured I would leave you with the latest Samisms....

"It's hard to remember that's why I'm pulling my chin" when asked a question

"playing basketbell with the bumps on my p****s ~ then it went swimming in the deep end" when asked why his hand was in his pants!

10 years....

My former youth pastor died ten years ago today. He was a man who along with his family, impacted me more than any other person I know. He was caring but firm, fun and encouraging, and I can honestly say that he saved my life!

We gave Daniel his name for his middle name, and I remember the day they met each other, Daniel just weeks old, and Bruce frail, only weeks away from death. It is a day that Daniel will never remember but we look back on with happy hearts. He has a picture of Bruce holding him on his bureau, and knows how important Bruce was.

It is hard to believe that it has been ten years, as it seems only a short time ago we got the call. I still think of him and often question what he might say in certain situations. I only hope that we can be as much as he was to me to someone else.

For future reference....

Peanut butter is marvelous at removing sticky tack from one's hair. Gross but effective! Now Daniel is in the shower to remove the peanut butter....

Recent conversations with Sam...

While sitting with my friend and I as she is nursing her babe...

Sam: Those are pretty big, he must be getting alot of milk
My friend: yes he is getting lots of milk
Sam: I have small nipples, I could just feed a mouse!

On climbing into bed with Hud and I in the wee hours of the morning, burning up with fever....

Sam: My legs hurt, and my neck
Me: I'll rub your legs
Sam: I need some medicine
Hud: I'll get it
Sam: is that all? I think I need some more
Me: that's it Sam...lay down and try to sleep
Sam: I need to puke
Me: run to the bathroom
Sam: (from the bathroom) I really am, I'm going to puke in one minute!

While playing with his friend Mike, sending trucks off a ramp topped with a skateboard...

Mike: Cool!
Sam: That was impressive!!!

After climbing in bed with us again this morning...

Sam: why do I need to lay here and look at the ceiling?
Me: You don't...just close your eyes and we can all go back to sleep
Sam: I guess I'll just bug Dad!

Oh My....

I had a visit with Grandmother at the nursing home this morning. I joined her at her exercise class where they lift weights and throw a ball at one of the nurses. One lady started to cry when her turn was over, so the lady next to her started trying to soothe her. When that didn't work she told her to be quiet. Hard to keep from laughing out loud. Another lady scooted in behind me with her weelchair and first felt my purse saying it was lovely, and then rubbed my top telling me there was nothing wrong with it. I was glad to know that I passed inspection. We then went out for the most painful concert by a group named " Menmory Lane." Oddly enough they didn't all know the words to the songs. One gentleman came through the room kissing all the ladies and dancing and clapping. He was hilarious. So frail yet so full of the past!

On leaving I stopped to say bye to Edna, one of Grandmother's table mates, and she told me that I look younger everytime she sees me! I'm hoping she doesn't think that I am one of the residents!!!

Anyhoo....it's a beautiful day full of sun and wonderful breezes so I am off to play in the garden. Tonight is mom's coffee night which will be a nice break fom all the business of the last few days.

Happy Thanksgiving....

Most recent things to be thankful for include not burning myself on a full cup of tea being spilled all over the counter as I was reaching for something, not falling off the porch roof as I was out on it washing the bedroom windows, Sam realizing that what I was doing was dangerous and not trying to climb out on the roof himself...yet, and perhaps the most important of all being surrounded by family and friends this weekend as we get together for various things this weekend. Not the least of which is a turkey dinner here tomorrow. Monday is a gathering of football fiends followed by chili at our place.

I love this season of crisp fresh air, beautiful colours and cozy meals. I hope you all get to celebrate with those you love and that you are really able to look at your lives and realize how much we all in fact have to be so thankful for.

Run for the cure

On Sunday Daniel ran the 5km run for the cure. There were over 7000 registered runners and walkers so I was glad when he found a school mate to run with! Sending him off into the crowd was a wee bit daunting but he made out ok until the last km when he fell onto the curb. He hoofed it back the last bit and I was starting to wonder where on earth he was based on how fast I know he runs. I was not relishing the thought of having to go look for him. Daniel has run in other runs before but none so important. As I looked around the crowd and read the pinney type things on which people had written who they were running for it hit me that the majority of the people in the crowd have been touched personnaly by this dreaded cancer. Tears rolled down my face the more names I read, and the longer I listened to the song they were playing over and over again. People were running for neighbors for mothers and grandmas, aunties and cousins and sadly many were running in memory of someone. One teams "name" if you will, was Breast Assured We'll Find A Cure! I sure hope they do, and soon! coming in wounded....walking not running for the last km
